A hazard risk mapping activity for Geographers

This event was launched on GIS Day 2015. Students can now freely access these resources. Students will learn about disaster risk mapping by examining and mapping the risks from a mega volcanic eruption for the area they live. Esri UK and GDST: supporting GIS in schools

The event has been created by

Raphael Heath, Head of Geography, and Digital Technology Education Consultant, Royal High School Bath, GDST (Girls Day School Trust)

 

Raphael Heath, was presented with the Royal Geographical Society Ordnance Survey Award for Excellence in Secondary Education in 2015.

He organised the 2014, 2015 and 2016Map Off events in which over 20,000 students have participated.

He was awarded a Silver Publishers Award from the Geographcial Associationin 2016 for the Ashcloud Apocalypse risk mapping activity. 

He won the Esri UK Best Community Project Award for the 2014 GIS Day World Record Event.

He was awareded a Goldsmiths Company professional development grant to develop his GIS expertise and events in April 2016. 

He has produced a sereis of resources for the RGS innovative teaching grant on developing an A level investigation into the geography of crime using GIS. 

He has contributed resources to theGeographical Assocation GIS support resources webpage. 

His new role as Digital Technology Education Consultant involves promoting innovation in the use of technology across the GDST group of 26 schools. 

He is a GDST Lead Subject Championpromoting collaboration in Geography across a network of 26 schools around the UK.

He is one of Esri UK's Centre of Excellencein GIS Education.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Chartered Geographer.

He has presented at conferences, published articles and run courses in various aspects of Geography teaching and uses of GIS.
